On adding a catalyst in a reaction mixture which is on equilibrium catalyst increases the rate of forward reaction but not effect the equilibrium why? On adding a catalyst in a reaction mixture which is on equilibrium catalyst increases the rate of forward reaction but not effect the equilibrium why?
Dear sumit A catalyst speeds up the rate of both the forward and reverse reactions. The initial slope of the concentration vs time lines will be steeper for both reactants and products. Reactants disappear faster while products are formed faster. A catalyst does NOT affect the equilibrium position. Because At equilibrium the concentrations of reactants and products for the catalysed reaction are the same as for the uncatalysed reaction. Please feel free to post as many doubts on our discussion forum as you can. If you find any question Difficult to understand - post it here and we will get you the answer and detailed solution very quickly. We are all IITians and here to help you in your IIT JEE & AIEEE preparation. All the best. Regards, Askiitians Experts Badiuddin

hi sumit , see catalyst is a substance which inc.rate of reaction i.e altering time but eqm.condition only depend on k(eqm.constant) n k only depend on temp.
