i heard that adsorption of hydrogen on glass is endothermic .please explain..........................
Dear Sreya,
Adsorption isotherms for hydrogen on glass were determined at 20.31, 19.96, 17.07, 14.20, 8.70, and 8.62°K, for equilibrium pressures up to 9 μb. From 20 to 14°K the adsorption isotherms could be represented by the formula
X being the adsorbed quantity in mol/cm2, p the pressure in μb.
Probably the adsorbed film consisted in the cases of largest occupation of more than one layer of hydrogen molecules.
So far as the accuracy of the experiments allows to draw a conclusion, the adsorption energy is from 14 to 20°K independent of the temperature. It decreases linearly with increasing X.
