work isdone on the system or by he system is discussed only when thee is presence of gases in the system .in vaccum there is no pesence of any gas means no compressiion no expansion hence work done is zero plz approve if you like

WORK DONE IS = - (EXTERNAL PRESSURE ) * CHANGE IN VOLUME
SO IN VACCUM THERE IS NO EXTERNAL PRESSURE THEREFORE NET WORK DONE IS ZERO
