i am doing gaseous state . . . . . . . have a qn : A column of Hg of 10cm length is contained in the middle of a narrow 1m long tube closed at both ends . Both halves of the tube contained air at pressure 76 cm of Hg . By what distance will the column of Hg be displaced if the tube is held vertical ?

Let displacement be 'd', let densities of air and mercury be d1 and d2,

d2*g*10 +76(45/(45+d))=76((45+d)/45)
