PLEASE ALSO EXPLAIN DIPOLE & DIPOLE MOMENT? HOW IS IT ADDED BY VECTOR ADDITION RULES?

Dear saumya

In chemistry, resonance or mesomerism is the appearance of delocalized electrons within certain molecules or polyatomic ions, so that the bonding cannot be expressed by one single Lewis formula. A molecule or ion with such delocalized electrons is represented by several contributing structures  (also called resonance structures or canonical forms)

they actually exits which makes compunds more stable

An electric dipole is a separation of positive and negative charges. The simplest example of this is a pair of electric charges of equal magnitude but opposite sign, separated by some (usually small) distance. A permanent electric dipole is called an electret.

Dipoles can be characterized by their dipole moment, a vector quantity. For the simple electric dipole given above, the electric dipole moment points from the negative charge towards the positive charge

resonance structures are those structures which properly explain the properties of a compound. they are the hybrid of all the individual structures of a compound which are supposed to exist.

e.g. in benzene, all bond lengths are experimentally found to be same. so, there is resonance in benzene.

resonance is not a hypothesis.

two bonded atoms having EN difference are together called a dipole as there is a shift of the electron cloud from one atom to other.

dipole moment is a vector quantity whose magnitude is equal to bond length x partial charge developed on each atom.

its direction is from less en atom to more en atom. thus, they add by vector addition.
