Sun releases energy by the process of nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion reaction in the sun follows the proton-proton cycle. Two hydrogen first react and produce Deuterium with emission of a positron and electron antineutrino. Proton consists of uud quarks and due to the reaction one of it transforms to udd that is a neutron. Weak force does the change in the quark flavours
