Dear student,

Due to existence of potential difference across the horizontal plates provided by the battery, there will be an electric field between the plates, due to which a charge placed in between them will experience a force.

The magnitude of the force due to battery of voltageVconnected across plates with a separationdbetween them is given as-

F=qE=q\dfrac{V}{d}
Hence the acceleration of the charge with massmis\dfrac{qV}{md}

When the pority of the plates is reversed, only the direction of the acceleration is changed, and not the magnitude.
