Definitions

1. logax = Nmeans thataN= x.

2. logxmeans log10x. All logarules apply for log. When a logarithm is written without a base it meanscommon logarithm.

3. lnxmeans logex, whereeis about 2.718. All logarules apply for ln. When a logarithm is written "ln" it meansnatural logarithm.
Note: lnxis sometimes written Lnxor LNx.

Rules

1. Inverse properties: logaax=xanda(logax)=x

2. Product:loga(xy) = logax+ logay

3. Quotient:

4. Power: loga(xp) =plogax

5.Change of base formula:

Careful!!

loga(x + y) ? logax+ logay

loga(x – y) ? logaxlogay
