Coversion of ethane to propane
C2H6 + PCl5 ? C2H5Cl + PCl3 + HCl
C2H5Cl + CH3MgCl ? CH3CH2CH3 + MgCl2
conversion of methyl iodide to propane
2CH3I+2NA= 2NACL+C2H6
C2H6+PCL5=C2H5Cl+PCl3+HCl
C2H5Cl+CH3MgCl=CH3CH2CH3+MgCl2
Thanks & Regards

PROPANE FROM ETHANE:-
1.Halogenation of ethane with Cl2 in presence of UV light changes it to ethyl chloride.
2. Treat C2H5Cl with KCN which forms nitrile.
3. Hydrolyse the nitrile with KOH forming carboxylic acid.
4.Finally reduce the acid with LiAlH4 which forms propane.
PROPANE FROM METHYL CHLORIDE:-
By Wurtz Reaction:- Methyl iodide + Ethyl iodide with sodium in dry ether gives a mixture of propane , ethane and butane. However separation of mixture is difficult due to close boiling points.
