There is scope in terms of employment only if you have a degree from IIT or NIT. Metallurgy from other institutes may require additional efforts from your side to get into a core company. After undertaking GATE exam you can enter government owned corporationlike India Oil Corporation Ltd.
Public Sector Steel Plants through exam conducted by SAIL
Private sector Steel Companies like Tata Steel but mostly through campus placements only.
Metallurgical Consultancies like MECON Ltd

Are core branches(Mechanical) in Top 3 NIT worth it ?

My rank in JEE Advanced 2022 is 1871. Should I go for IIT Guwahati ECE or IIT Kanpur Mechanical and try for a branch change to CS or Electrical Engineering? Is changing your branch very difficult?
