Americas President Barak Obama said these words when he came to India.India succeeded not inspite of democracy , but succeeded because of democracy .What these words mean?

He basically directed these words to those people who criticize democracy as being slow and less efficient. He was favoring democracy as against regimes like China . He said that India has succeeded not because it was able to battle the problems of democracy but because it was able to benefit from the good points of democracy
