Let L1 be a straight line passing through the origin and L2 be the straight line x+y=1.If the intercepts made by the circle x^2+y^2-x+3y=0 on L1 and L2 are equal , then which of the following equation can represent L1???

a)x-y =0

b)x-y=0

c)x+7y=0

d)x-7y=0

Plzzz solve this ques and say how to proceed it....

Hi Student

First solve line with circle by putting x+y=1 in equation of circle and get two points and find the length of intercept using distance formula

Now let line passing through origin be y=mx again solve it with equation of circle

Again find 2-points in terms of m and using distance formula make it equal to length of intercept obtained from previous part.

If you still have problem then reply on this thread.

Equal chords will be at an equal distance from the centre. Calculate the length of perpendicular for the given line from the centre and then check with the length of perpendiculars for each of them.
