Grade 12th PassDiscuss with colleagues and IITians

Well, I'm getting 2000 - 3000 rank in IITJEE 2011. I am also getting 66 percent marks in AIEEE (predict the rank please). I want to do an MSc in maths and scientific computing from IITK. But people advise me against it. You see, I am not sure about the placement that I'll get after the five years of study. So, should I do a usual engg course (dual degree is fine) from IITKgp or IITR maybe (because I wont get anything good in IIT K, B, or D). So, if anybody can please be of any assistance here, please give me some replies. And yeah, if you can post placement statistics for MSc in maths and/or Physics from IITK, that sure would be a great help.

msc math...& computing is not a lucrative branch. very less salary.

about choice b/w nit and iit, u should have written ur state of eligbty in aieee. if u are in andhra pradesh, u wont get a good seat (cs, ee, e&c, mech) due to heavy competition. but if u are in kerala, karnataka, u'll get a good branch.

in iit u should join newer iits like iit indore, gandhinagar etc(in cs, ee,e&c, mech) if u want the brand o an IITIAN. salary wise speaking, u better join BHU. But u'll miss the internationally recognised brandname. its a tough choice. u have to take it. but anyways don't go behind interests as interests may change and in the future u may repent for not taking a lucrative branch. but at the same time, u should take that branch in which u are strong at as well as is lucrative so that u may not end up in a failure.

The placements will certainly not be very good......what my advice is.....take IIT Guwahati.....you may get mechanical,chemical and civil there......the placements are very good...

Mechanical--->average ~7lpa.

Chemical ---->average ~8lpa

Civil ------>average ~6.8lpa
