i have qualified iit jee 2010 with AIR 1371and i want to join iit bombay or delhi or kanpur. but i will get civil engineering in these colledges. but i am not much interested in civil engineering. i like mechanical and electrical. can i rely on branch criteria of iit bombay ? i promise to work for 10 pointer.

Branch change is not easy even for good student.Very few student get these opportunity.

all branch can be changed but it has certain rule.

you can see the branch change rule of individual student in councelling broucher.

besides this you must perform well in both the semester ( may be the topper of your branch).and only  few percentage of total seat of any branch can be incresed for branch change.so after moving from one branch to another if the percentage of total strength increses beyond the certain cutoff percentage then you can't go to that branch and at the same time if the strength  of your branch from which you are moving decreases beyond a certain limit then you are not  allowed to leave that branch.

you can try  for mechanical ,electrical in other IITs like Kharagpur,roorkee,guwahati.
