I did not get in the institutes of my choice and I am thinking about going long term. What is your opinion on the matter? should I go to any college or only top colleges?

A top college does matter but if you are able to get a decent college with a branch of your choice you can go for it instead of dropping out . As you never know what turns out ot be the result the coming year . 

If you want you can join a college this year and still keep preparing and if you able to crack the exam change the college else continue with the college you got into .
