the following is a STANDARD result/theorem:
after rotating the axes through an angle θ, let the coordinates (x, y) be transformed into (x’, y’) in the new coordinate system. then x= x’cosθ – y’sinθ and y= x’sinθ+y’cosθ. now given eqn can be seen as f(x, y)=0 or f( x’cosθ – y’sinθ, x’sinθ+y’cosθ)=0 here θ= pi/4 so f((x’ – y’)/root2, (x’+y’)/root2)=0
or 3((x’ – y’)/root2)^2+3((x’+y’)/root2)^2+2(x’ – y’)/root2*(x’+y’)/root2=2
or 3(x’^2+y’^2)+x’^2 – y’^2=2
or 4x’^2+2y’^2=2
2x’^2+y’^2=1
hence option B is correct.
please approve :)
