As I cannot write my whole answer here but I tried this
Answer in following way and I got the answer
Hint,
First imagine point P(x1,y1)
As you know point A and B find equation of PA and PB in terms of x1 and y1
Find intersection point of PA and the line y=xand name it as D similarly find PB and the liney=x and name it as C (you will get them in terms of a,x1,y1)
And length of this CD is k(now apply distance formula fol9r C and D and equate it to k)
After solving this equation you will get the answer you need......
