Is the equation for tangent to x²=4ay i.e. x=my+a/m valid ?
Or the equation for tangent is y=mx+am²
Please clear my dilemma.

Dear student

As a part of standard notation 1st equation is considered, however it can be expressed in the form as mentioned in 2nd equation. I hope it helps kindly reply if doubt still persists in this regard

Dear student

Always change x and y in place of each other only in case of when parameter is used.
Means
In y² = 4ax , tangent is: ty = x + at²
So for x² = 4ay, tangent is tx = y +at²

Now for tangent of slope m.
In y² = 4ax
m should be 1/t
Hence t = 1/m

So put t = 1/m in the tangent equation

Similarly for x² = 4ay
t should be m
Hence put t = m in second tangent equation

mx = y + am²
Hence y = mx - am²

Hope it helps
