the equation of common chord is s – s1= 0 
equation of system of circles passing through the intersection of two circles is s + λs1=0
the common chord is the diameter of the circle. so the centre lies on the line s – s1= 0.  substitute the centre (-g, -f) in this line and solve for  λ.
