hello anandi, we apply angle sum property of trinagles in triangle ABC.

ABC+BCA+CAB= 180

or 2x + 60 + 40= 180

or 2x + 100= 180

or 2x= 180 – 100= 80

or x= 80/2

or x= 40

now, angle on st line add up to 180, so BCA + ACE= 180

or 60 + 2y= 180

2y= 180 – 60= 120

or y= 120/2

so y= 60
