Find the value of k for which angle subtended by a line segment joining the points P(-1,2) and Q(1,4)at the point R(k,0) is maximum?

Slope of line PR= -2/(k+1)

Slope of line QR= 4/1-k

 

Angle between them must be max.

 tanα = (m1  - m2)/1+m1m2

 

           =(2k +6)/ k2 + 7

 

 

Differentiating, and putting ==0, we get k=1,7
