There are counters available in x different colors. The counters are all alike except for th color. The total no of arrangements consisting ofy counters, assuming sufficient no. of counters of each color, if no arrangemaent consists of all counters of the same color is?

first counter can be selected in x way

second counter can be selected in x ways

.

.

. yth counter can be selected in x ways

 total ways =x^y

but it is also include that case in which all the counter are of same colour

so total posible selection = x^y-x
