rationalize every term
then you will get
sqrt 2 – 1 + sqrt 3 – sqrt 2 + sqrt 4 – sqrt 3 + …...............+ sqrt 9 – sqrt 8
hence on simplifying
sqrt 9 – 1 = 3 – 1 = 2
