Variation means proportional. ( See below for more)
See for eg.  We have a equation x+5=y
If we say that “X” is directly proportional to something lets say “Y”, that means we want to say that if the value of “Y” increase by 3, then the value of (x+5) also increases by 3. Here the value of (X+3) means for some value of “Y” {before increasing the value of Y by} the value of X+3 that we get or we had got. Ya this value also increses by 3. And so on.
