The melting point of solid increases or decreases with pressure and the boiling point of liquid increases with increase in pressure.
The effct of pressure on m.p of solid depends on its nature. It is found that in case of solids which expands on melting increase in pressure increases the m.p For ex-Paraffin wax,Ag,Au,Cu.While those solids which contracts on melting increase in pressure, decreases the m.p like in case of ice, cast iorn, brass.
