Q.What is the heat given off by 5kg of water at 45 centigrade when 1kg of ice is put into it and is melted till equilibrium is maintained? In these questions while using formula H=mCdT when ice is melted then why we do (t–0) in place of dT, and why not (0–t)... where, ‘t’ is the temperature given off by water

dT is change in temperature
water temperature changes from 45 degrees to equilibrium(fall of temperature by water so we take t-0

ice temperature changes from 0 degrees to equlibrium (as temperature of ice is not given in the question, it is taken as 0 degrees). It might be very fine if temperature of ice is given in the question. Because we cant get clear solution with out this.
