IIT Madras, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a public engineering and research college that is situated in Chennai, known as Madras formerly, Tamil Nadu. The Indian Government recognized this college as the Institute of National Importance. It was established in the year 1959 with financial and technical assistance from the former West Germany government. This was the 3rd IIT incorporated by the Indian Government through the Parliament Act in order to provide the facilities of education and research in engineering and technology. Moreover, being a residential institute it occupies around 620 acres campus that was an adjoining part of the Guindy National Park.
