there was a question in aieee this year on tautamerism. 2 options were 2-pentanol and phenol. i think phenol and 2-pentanol both show tautamerism. m i rite? if yes, den how will aieee provide marks for this ques.?

Yes you are right. Both answers are correct. But marks will be awarded only if you've chosen 2-Pentanone(since acc. to instructions, no question was having multiple answers. If marked more than one option, -1 marks will be given) because commonly books show tautomerization (Keto-enol isomerism)  in case of ketones only (though both are correct).

no, 2-pentanol will not show tautomerism. for showing tauto it should be pent-2-ene-2-ol or pent-1-ene-2-ol

although phenol can shows tautomerism bt it is not considered( i mean it is less favourable ) because resonce causes more stability than by showing tautomerism.
