Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering was started in 1996 and was affiliated to Anna University. This institution is the pet project of Padma Bhushan Dr.Shiv Nadar Founder & Chairman of HCL Technologies. Over the years, SSNCE has built a reputation of being one of the most prestigious and sought after colleges in Tamil Nadu, owing to its admission procedure and quality teaching methodology.
Initially functioning from a temporary location in Thoraipakkam in the suburbs of Chennai, SSNCE moved to a sprawling 1 square kilometer campus at Kalavakkam on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road), the Cyber Corridor of Chennai in the year 1998. In addition to the academic sector and the residential area there enough space to accommodate a basketball court, a Volleyball court, a Football field and a Cricket Field. The campus also has a mini auditorium, a 'TNMB' Extension Counter and an ATM. The entire campus has 24X7 internets with 6 MB/s connectivity, central air conditioner, health care services and students mentoring and counseling services.
The campus has Staff Quarters, Guest House and well furnished hostels for both boys and girls. Spacious room, excellent water supply, modern kitchen and dining facilities make the hostels a home away from home.

The SSN College of Engineering quests for excellence in sports with the college having an impressive record of performance in both National as well as International level sporting events. The SSN Rolling Trophy was introduced in the year 2003, with the tournament held at state level amongst the Engineering colleges for Basket Ball, Badminton and Table Tennis under men & women's category. From the 6thSSN Rolling Trophy 2008, the tournament became a National level tournament in which cricket and tennis for men was also included.
Alumni
The Alumni Association of the SSN aims at providing a platform for sharing intellectual, cultural, career and professional experiences not just with the present students but also with other alumni. The goal of the SSN Alumni Office being to keep the pupils connected with SSN in order to promote stronger connections, and help provide opportunities for dialogue, sharing knowledge, voluntary service, social interaction and philanthropy.
Along the years the college has provided a strong list of professionals, among whom worth mentioning are Hari Ganapathy Subramanian -2007 pass-out from the Department of Information Technology @ SSN, and R. Senthil Nathan.
