History

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) is the university main branch, located at Kukatpally, Hyderabad. The JNTH was established as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College in 1965 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, which was affiliated to Osmania University, Hyderabad. But with the formation of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 1972, it became a constituent college of the University and was renamed as JNTU College of Engineering, Hyderabad. The main objective of the college being to provide for the advancement of learning and knowledge in Engineering & Technology, Physical and Social Sciences by teaching, research and experimentation or practical training, it is a teaching cum research oriented university consisting of the constituent and affiliated colleges. It is the first technological university in India and celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1990.
 

Campus

After being located in temporary buildings, the college was finally shifted to a 100 acre site at Kukatpally, on the Bombay Highway in 1984, which also houses the main campus of the University. The college presently has 3 hostels, a University Guest house with 30 rooms to accommodate guests and invitees with attached dinning hall. In addition to these, regular departments have two research centres viz. Centre for Energy Studies and Centre for Transportation Engineering. The College also has 40 lecture halls and 4 drawing halls and a seminar hall to accommodate 150 people. The bench spaces available in classroom is about 2 Sq.m per student and working space available in laboratories space provided is about 5 sq.m per student. Each department has its own independent buildings with departmental Libraries and seminar halls. Then there are also common facilities such as the Auditorium, the Guest House, a Branch of Andhra Bank, Extension counter of SBH, Staff Quarters, Principal Quarter, and Canteen in the campus. Power House with 140 KV, a Generator is connected to all buildings including Hostels.

Hostels

The College has two Hostels for Boys with a total capacity of 350 students and one Hostel for Girls with space to accommodate 120 girls. Because of growing demand for students hostels two more hostels are being constructed one for Boys and one for girls which will have the capacity to accommodate about 200 students each. One PG Hostel for Boys and One PG Hostel for Girls are also under construction at present.

Cultural Activity

The College has a long list of extra co-curricular activities for the overall growth of the students. The college has a vigorous NSS unit, which regularly organizes blood donation and clean and green camps. It also conducts artisan training programmes to impart technical skills to the needy people and adult literacy programmes in neighboring villages. The unit also has to its credits the  Tree Plantation Programmes, AIDS Awareness programmes and Ragging prevention programmes that are conducted in the college. The College conducts an annual cultural programme SPANDANA, inviting all the colleges in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad which is a popular programme amongst the students. Also some of the fest are, PRAGNYA, SPOORTHY and QUEST.
