"Student Gets the IIT Degree after Death"

"Akshay Dhoke"

"Siddarth Dhoke receives the honorary BTech degree for his son Akshay Dhoke"

In one of the uncommon tales of an eternal courage and success in the history of IITs and, probably, any other education institution in India, Akshay Dhoke, an IIT Bombay student, receives his engineering degree a year later, after succumbing to a rare form of blood cancer.

Akshay, a Nagpur topper in class 10th and 12th, was ranked among the top 200 aspirants in the JEE. A great fan of Rahul Dravid, he also helmed Nagpur cricket team to state level.

Akshay Dhoke’s first brush with IIT came when he joined IIT-Powai in the year 2009 to study M. Tech in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Microelectronics. He was pursuing a dual degree.

His illness was revealed in 2011 by a team of doctors, who also advised him a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).

Unfortunately, Akshay succumbed to his illness on September 14th, 2013.

Akshay’s father received the award for him on institutions’ convocation day and spoke at lengths about his son, his dreams, his illness, and his fight against cancer.
