A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Fill JEE Main 2020 Application Form


IIT JEE Main 2020 Application FormJEE Main 2020 application form is now available at the official website of JEE Main which is Those engineering aspirants who are willing to take the admission in the prestigious engineering colleges of India have started filling up the online application form of JEE Main. However, there are few students who are facing problem in filling up the form.

Step by step guide on how to fill the JEE Main 2020 application form will help students give clear instruction on how to fill the application form.

Read the below instructions carefully for filling up the JEE Main online application form.

Necessary Documents that will be required while filling up the JEE Main 2020 Application form

1. Photograph

  • Students need to have a recent passport size photograph with date and name on it. Remember, you should not wear any cap or goggles while taking the photo. Anyhow, spectacles are allowed while taking the photograph.

  • The passport size can either be color or b/w with clear contrast

  • Students need to scan the photograph before filling up the form. Please remember that the width and height should be 3.5 cm and 4.5 cm respectively. You may crop the image as per the width and height by using Paint or GIMP in Linux.

  • Students need to remember that the size of the file should be more than 4kb and less than 40 kb

2. Signature of the candidate

  • Students need to take a white sheet of paper and make a rectangular box of size 3.5cm by 1.5cm

  • Students need to sign inside the box. Remember the signature should be done by the candidate only. The signature should be the same in other documents as well.

  • Scan the sheet and crop along with the box. Remember to save the file in .jpge or .jpg file of size more than 1 kb and less that 30 kb                                                                                              

3. Thumb Impressions

  • Place your thumb impression on a rectangular box of 3.5 cm by 1.5 cm which is to be made in a white paper. Remember; boys need to place left thumb impression while girls need to place right thumb impression.

  • Scan and save the same in .JPG file which should be in between 1kb and 30kb

4. Candidates Class 10 Mark sheet: Class 10 mark sheet will be required for reference only.

5 Credit or debit card if the candidate is willing to pay through online mode. 

Brief Introduction on how to fill the JEE Main Online Application Form 2020

Step 1: Register & fill the details

Students need to visit the JEE Main official website ( and click on the link that say Apply for JEE (Main) 2020”. 

As soon as the page gets open, students can see 3 simple steps to apply the JEE Main 2020 application form. The steps are: 

  • Fill the application form 

  • Upload the scanned image

  • Pay the examination fee

Once you click on the Apply Section, a new page will be opened where you can see the instruction and procedure of the application form. Students need to study the instruction carefully before filling up the form. 

Once you have read the instruction carefully, you need to proceed further by clicking on the tab which says "Proceed to Apply Online".

Step 2- Filling JEE Main 2020 Application Form:

Once you click on the apply online tab, you will be redirected to the page where you need to fill the following details

  •  Exam related details

  •  Personal details

  • Academic details

  • Mailing address details

  • Guardian details

  • Password and security pin

Below are the step-by-step details on how to fill the above details

1.  Exam Related Details-

Under this segment, candidates need to choose

  1. Exams Applying for- JEE Main Paper 1 or 2 or Both

  2. Mode of Examination - Pen and paper based OR computer Based

  3. Choice of exam centre - Four choices will be provided to you. You need to fill as per your preferred choice

  4. Question paper medium- English or Hindi

2. Personal Details-

In this step, candidates need to give their personal information correctly.

Note: Foreign/OCI/PIO candidates are not eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFIs through JEE Main Channels

Points to Remember:

  • Only those candidates who have passed their class 12 or equivalent examinations in the year 2019 & 2020 are eligible for the exams.

  • Candidates, who are appearing for their Class XII examination in 2019, are eligible. Those candidates who will be appearing their class 12 examination in the year 2018 are not eligible to apply for JEE Main 2020?

4.   Mailing Address Details-

It is mandatory for the candidates to enter their correct mailing address for further communication.

Please note: A communication will be done using the entered address and phone numbers only. 

5.   Guardian Details-

 In this step, candidates are required to fill the qualification, occupation and annual income of their father/guardian and mother.

6.      Choose Password

Important Points to remember:

Password Criteria is as follows-

  • Choose the Password which is 8 to 13 characters long.

  • It must have at least one Upper case alphabet.

  • It must have at least one Lower case alphabet.

  • It must have at least one numeric value.

  • It must have at least one special character eg.!@#$%^&*-.

7.    Security Pin-

Candidates need to enter the displayed security pin to proceed further. 

Note: Please check everything before clicking on the “NEXT” button. You need to fill the details correctly and the documents should be correct. Any mistake while filling up the form may lead to auto rejection of the application form.

Step 3- Uploading Scanned Images

On final submission of application form, you will be redirected to the next step which is uploading of scanned images- photograph, signature and thumb impression (specifications of dimensions stated above).

Your JEE Main 2020 Application Number will be written on it.

Step 4- Fee Payment

Candidates have to pay the fees as follows:

(1) In case the examination fee is paid through credit/debit cards, the candidate will need to pay an additional processing charge as following
Credit Card: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable.
Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for examination fee up to Rs. 2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs. 2000
(2) Application fee once paid will not be refunded (full or partial) under any circumstances.

You will get an option to review and edit the JEE Main application form before making the payment. We strongly advise you to click on the Review Application and check the details once before proceeding further.

Payment Mode of JEE Main 2020 Application Fees:

1Credit (additional charges: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable)

2. Debit Card (additional charges: 0.75% of the examination fee plus taxes for examination fee up to Rs. 2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs. 2000. )

3. Through the e-Challan generated after successful submission of the online application form.

Candidates can deposit application fee in cash at any branch of Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank or ICICI Bank.

Take a print out of the detailed form and keep it save with you for further use.

Form Correction Process

Form correction in JEE Main Application Form can be only done till the payment of the fees has not been made. Once the payment of the fees is done you cannot make any changes in the form.

Anyhow, the correction can be only made during the period in which online application form correction will be published after the form submission dates are over.

Below are some Do’s & Don’ts that students need to remember while filling up the form.


  • Fill the entire column correctly without making any mistakes

  • Upload the image as per the prescribed instruction

  • No application will be accepted without the payment of the fee.

  • Upload the required documents as per the requirements.

  • Submit the online application form before the last date.       

  •  Candidates should fill the required field mark as (*).

  • Only provide the valid email id of yours which is functional for further contact and updates.


  • Do not enter incorrect information in the application form

  • Do not enter incorrect email id

  • If you are not eligible for the JEE Main 2020 exam, please do not apply for the same.

  • Do not fill the form without reading the instruction carefully.

  • Do not forget your password. It is better to WRITE it down in a diary

  • Do not apply after the last date. The form will be not accepted

  •  Do not upload the images against to prescribed dimensions and size.
