NITJSR or NIT Jamshedpur was earlier known as the Regional Institute of Technology. It was established in 1960 as a regional engineering college in India with the aim to generate technical graduates of the highest standards who could provide technological leadership to the region. In 2002, the Regional Institute of Technology was converted into the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. It is fully funded and governed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India since 1st April, 2003. According to the NIRF 2022 rankings, NITJSR is at #90 in the engineering category.
NITJSR offers 7 undergraduate programs: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical and Material Engineering, Production and Industrial Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. It also offers 23 postgraduate programs including Thermal Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Surface Science and Engineering. Lastly, it includes PhD programs as well.

NIT Jamshedpur B.Tech admission process is based on the JEE Main ranking of the students and their performance in Class 12 examination or equivalent. Students have to participate in the JOSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling or CSAB ( Central Seat Allocation Board) counselling to get admission in B.Tech programs at NITJSR. Students must score at least 60% in Class 12 or have a 6.50 CGPA to be eligible for admissions in the B.Tech programs at NIT Jamshedpur.
