IIT Patna

The formal registration of the Indian Institute of Technology Patna was done on July 25th, 2008 and during its formative period this institute was placed under the mentorship of the IIT in Guwahati. Classes have currently started temporarily in the New Government Polytechnic Patliputra colony. For this two hostel buildings have been renovated and modernized which are located in the college campus. Each hostel has 50 rooms approx. and two occupants. A student activity center with a gymnasium and modern amenities will be ready soon. The student activity center (SAC) will be the center of all student co-curricular and extra curricular activities.

Currently IIT Patna has the following 3 departments:
* B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering
* B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
* B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
This newly set-up institute in Patna wil be soon starting the Doctoral Programme from the next month and for the same there are 30 vacancies. The first Director of the institute AK Bhowmick will assume charge in July. UNICEF and IIT-Patna signed a memorandum ( MoU) to address issues related to improvement of the children of Bihar. This partenership will go a long way in improving the socio-economic status of women and children in Bihar.
