IIT Gandhinagar Newly Started IIT

The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar is located in Gujarat and will be working under the mentorship of IIT Bombay for atleast 5 years or maybe more till enough infrastructure , faculty and finances are in place. It started functioning in 2008-09 from its temporary campus at Vishwakarma Government College , Chandkheda , Gandhinagar. In the first academic year 2008-09 three programmes were offered :

    * Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering
    * Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering
    * Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering

This  institution will develop a national fire accident registry so that it can provide better data and develop protection solutions for firefighters across the country. As told presently there are 31 students in Chemical Engineering, 37 in Electrical Engineering and 35 in Mechanical Engineering. Initially  gandhinagar will have a gym, a small library and a medical center which is temporary.
