Seat in IIT ? No Thanks, Say Some Students

The Indian Institutes of Technology was known for being the only premier technical schools of the country, the ones that make to the top 300 global university rankings. It is the No. 1 destination for students aspiring to become engineers. But it a shocking news that today some of the candidates are declining the seats offered by IITs. According to M K Panigrahi, the (Advanced) 2014 organizing chairman, 9,711 seats were available this year after the first jee advanced 2014 counselling phase. But among them only 9,061 were filled. But as comparison to last year the situation is quite better. He also said that IIT seats could be vacant as some candidates who qualify the JEE (Advanced) exam do not have high marks in Grade 12 to achieve the top 20 percentile, which is required to get IIT admission. Some candidates getting seats in specific course prefer to give up because it is not the subject in which they want to take admission into.
