JEE Advanced 2022 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The JEE Advanced 2022 exam has two papers - and both of them are compulsory for IIT aspirants. Students can choose to take these papers in English or Hindi.

JEE Advanced 2022 Paper 1 Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced Paper 1 has three sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It has 54 questions and students get 3 hours to solve them. Each subject has three types of questions:

  1. 6 MCQs (multiple-choice questions) have only one correct option. If you answer the question correctly, you get 3 marks. If you answer it incorrectly, you lose 1 mark. These six questions carry a total of 18 marks. Between the three subjects, there are 18 such questions that carry a total of 54 marks.
  2. 6 MCQs (multiple-choice questions) have one or more correct options. If you answer the question correctly, you get 4 marks. These types of questions allow you to win partial marks if your answer is partially correct. For example, if all the four options are correct and the candidate chooses only three, he or she will get 3 marks. If three or more options are correct and the candidate chooses two of the correct options, he or she will get 2 marks. If two or more options are correct and the candidate chooses only one correct option, he or she will get 1 mark. However, if a candidate chooses the wrong option or does not attempt the question, he or she loses 2 marks. These six questions carry a total of 24 marks. Between the three subjects, there are 18 such questions that carry a total of 72 marks.
  3. 6 questions have numerical values as answers. There's no negative marking in these types of questions. If you answer a question correctly, you get 4 marks. These six questions carry a total of 24 marks. Between the three subjects, there are 18 such questions that carry a total of 72 marks.
