the lungs of a foetus in the womb are non functional. does that mean that there is no air in its lungs? not even the Residual Volume?

Hi
The lungs not being functional means they are not exchanging gases. They are not performing breathing or respiration. If they are not undergoing breathing then there is no question of residual volume present in lungs.
