The first man to observe live cell under microscope was
Robert Hooke FRS (/hʊk/; 28 July [O.S. 18 July] 1635 – 3 March 1703) was an English scientist and architect, a polymath, recently called "England's Leonardo", who, using a microscope, was the first to visualize a microorganism.

The cell walls observed by Hooke gave no indication of the nucleus and other organelles found in most living cells. The first man to witness a live cell under a microscope was Anton van Leeuwenhoek, who in 1674 described the algae Spirogyra.
