Removal and culture of fluid from the amniotic sac is referd to as amniocentesis. Desquamated foetal cells from the amniotic fluid are cultured to perform karyotype analysis. Karytype analysis of such cells several in number of chromosome and structural abnormalities. It also determines the sex of would be child.
