The cutting of DNA by restriction endonuclease results in the fragments ofDNA. There Fragments can be separated by a technique known as gel electrophoresis.

Applications:
The most commonly used matrix ix agarose which is a natural polymer extraced from sea weeds.
The DNA fragments purified in this way are used in construction recombinant DNA by joining them with clonning vectors.
