The autonomic nervous system (ANS), also known as the visceralnervous system and involuntary nervous system, is a division of the peripheral nervous system that influences the function of internal organs.
the ANS consists of motor neurons that control smooth muscles, cardiac muscles, and glands
The activity of autonomic ganglionic neurons is modulated by “preganglionic neurons” located in the central nervous system. Preganglionic sympathetic neurons are located in the spinal cord, at the thorax and upper lumbar levels.
