Digestion is just the breakdown of complex food components into simpler form by hydrolysis. For example- Proteins to Amino Acids, Fats or Lipids to Fatty Acids and Glycerol, Carbohydrate(Polysaccaride) to Glucose or Fructose (Monosaccharide) and Nucleic Acid(Polynucleotide) to Nucleotide (Monomer).

However, the utilization of these simple units to derive energy is the Oxidation process (Cellular Respiration).
