Hetero chromatin has a number of roles and I cannot list them down here at the moment It is inactive but it does transcribe and does not just remain non functional It is called so because it is constantly worked by RNA induced transcriptional silencing Hetero chromatin has its gene expression as well So it is significant and has number of functions (innumerable!)
