Entire alpha DNA complement of members of the Chromophyta has a defined spatial position with organelle. DNA in this nucleodal ring structure is not naked, associated with histone-like proteins. Studies in spinach indicate that nearly seven acid soluble proteins are associated with plastid and a similar low number occurs in O discus plastid. Thus, one is confronted with concept of chloroplast ‘chromosome’ – a DNA molecule associated with histonelike proteins that is present in multiple copies. These’chromosomes’ are localized within a defined position in the plastid.

Chrysophytes include  diatoms and desmides (golden algae) and they contain histones in their nucleus. Dinoflagellates are only eukaryotes which do not contain histone protein in their nucleus and that is why called mesokaryotes.
