Cadherins are transmembrane proteins, with five heavily glycosylated external domains. They are being the primary cause for strong general intercellular adhesion, and they are also being the components of some specialized adhesive contacts, and are attached by linker proteins  at their cytoplasmic ends to the underlying cytoskeletal fibres . Different cell types possess different members of the cadherin family, e.g.  E-cadherins in epithelia, P-cadherins in the placenta, and N-cadherins in nervous tissue.

Hi ! Akansha,
Cadherin is named for calcium-dependent Adhesion, are a class of type-1 transmembrane protein. They play a important roles in cell adhesion, forming adheren junctions to bind cells within tissue together.
Cadherin is also important in developement of tissue morphogenesis.
Hope it’s help you,

1- it is a class of type 1 transmembrane proteins .
2- they play imp roles in cell adhesion , and to bind cell and tissue together .
3- they are dependent on clacium ( ca 2^+ ) ion to function .
4- they are actually 4 types which are found in diffrent location
