In traditional photography we are producing latent images,
i.e a two-dimensional image is transformed to the surface of a film. But there
are some limitations as the photo cannot be viewed in the third dimension.
Formation of a hologram image:
A hologram is an image produced by the interference of
light. An interference pattern is produced by splitting a single coherent
source and then it is recombined producing constructive and destructive
patterns. The object that is illuminated
by high intensity laser beam and the reflected beam from the object and the
reference beam from the mirror are projected to a photographic plate where it
results in in a complex interference pattern. When the photographic plate is
developed you could see the hologram.
