In an experiment to measure the speed of light by Fizeau’s apparatus, following data are used:
Distance between the mirror = 12.0 km,
Number of teeth in the wheel = 180.

Sol. In the given Fizeau’` apparatus,
D = 12 km = 12 × 10^3 m
n = 180
c = 3 × 10^8 m/sec
We know, c = 2Dnω/π
⇒ ω = πc/2Dn rad/sec = πc/2Dn * 180/π deg/sec
⇒ ω = 180 * 3 * 10^8/24 * 10^3 * 180 = 1.25 * 14^4 deg/sec
