A ray of light falling at an angle of 50o is refracted through a prism in minimum deviation position. The angle of the prism is 60o. Calculate the refractive index of the prism. Given that sin 50o = 0.766

Dear Student,
i1=50⁰ (Angle of rate)
we realize that for least deviation condition,
2i1=A+min (A=Angle of crystal, min= Minimum deviation point)
=>2x50=60+min
=>min=40⁰
µ=refractive index= sin((A+min)/2)/sin(A/2)
=>µ=sin50/sin30
=>µ=1.532
Cheers!!
