Hi Aritra,
Polarization (also polarisation) is a property of certain types of waves that describes the orientation of their oscillations. Electromagnetic waves, such as light, and gravitational waves exhibit polarization; acoustic waves (sound waves) in a gas or liquid do not have polarization because the direction of vibration and direction of propagation are the same.
For light, when we cut down the axis of vibration/oscillation of the EM Wave, it is said to be polarised.
Polaroid is one that causes polarisation.
Try this Question: A block of mass m, is kept on a wedge of mass M (that is placed in a frictionless surface). There is no friction between the block and wedge as well. Now find the acceleration of the block, with respect to the ground.
Best Regards,
Ashwin (IIT Madras).
